Where Can I Find School Ratings?

If you are moving to the San Antonio area and have children, school ratings and rankings are so important. Where you live is very often dictated by the school rating of the district that home is located in. Does it offer the programs you are interested in? What are the class sizes? What are the test results for the last year?

San Antonio school rating information should be readily available to you when you are talking to your Realtor. Can they give you up to date information that will help guide your decisions?

Moving is already difficult, and to find that you bought a home in a school district that is ranked as “Needing Improvement” or “Academically Unacceptable” could create a tremendous burden on your family.

Charts for school ratings, as assigned by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), are usually released each year. However, that data was not released for the 2011-2012 school year.

The ratings for the years up through 2011 are:

  1. Exemplary
  2. Recognized
  3. Academically Acceptable
  4. Academically Unacceptable

The individual schools in each district are rated and an overall rating is applied to the district. You can see the criteria required for each school rating (PDF file) on the Texas Education Agency’s website.

The Texas Education Agency’s website says that 2013 data will be released in January, so a follow up to this article will be released with that information as soon as it has been updated.
