Canyon Springs Neighborhood Gets Creative with Ice Storm

January 24, 2014 by Linda Mosse Leave a Comment

Canyon Springs - Sledding

Canyon Springs Uses “Snow Day” to Their Advantage

Agent Linda Mosse sent this to us this morning from her neighborhood, Lakeside at Canyon Springs. We love seeing the kids have fun, so we wanted to share it with you!

Today, January 24, 2014 is technically a “snow day” for most schools in and around San Antonio…well, really, it is an “ice day” to be more precise! No worries, we can have a little fun regardless of the weather! Here in the Lakeside at Canyon Springs neighborhood and in particular the Crazy Creek cul-de-sac, we take crazy to a new extreme! One of the neighborhood driveways is long, sloping, and completely glazed in ice, so the kids in the area took whatever they could find; recycle bins, cardboard boxes, and laundry baskets and sledded down the slick, slippery surface. Nothing like a little innovation and creativity. Totally fun, unexpected and crazy!

Office Closure Due to Icy Conditions

January 24, 2014 by khproperties Leave a Comment

Icy Conditions

Be Careful Driving Today

Because of the icy conditions on the road this morning (something we rarely say in San Antonio), the Kimberly Howell Properties office will be closed for the morning. We are planning on reassessing the situation at noon. If you need anything, please contact us via email at email hidden; JavaScript is required or contact your agent directly. We will post updates here once we know if we’ll be opening later today. In the meantime, enjoy the magical world of ice covered everything and be careful driving out there. Remember, if your back wheels begin to slide, turn in the same direction those wheels are heading. Also, if your car has anti-lock brakes (ABS), do not pump them, instead, apply gentle pressure (and back off of them if the care begins to slide). Keep safe and stay warm. We’ll see you in a few hours!

Hail Damage and Insurance Claims

April 2, 2013 by khproperties Leave a Comment

Hail in San Antonio

On Sunday, March 31st a wicked thunderstorm ripped through parts of San Antonio. The fast moving storm included the usual lightning, rain, and thunder, but in some areas of the city, it also dropped some pretty large hail. Hail stones can be pretty vicious and as you can see in the photo, we got quite a bit.

After a hail storm, it is a good idea to go out and check your home and any other property that was exposed. Oftentimes, a hailstorm leaves damages on the roof, siding and windows. Hence, homeowners affected by the hailstorm will need professional roofing repair services from trusted residential roofing contractors while others will work on DIY repairs. However, DIY repairs can save you a lot of money, but if you don’t really know what you’re doing you may end up  causing more damage, so it is recommended to hire a professional roofing service. Many insurance companies will allow you to claim the hail damage to your roof or your car, so mark down the time of the storm, the damage done (photo documentation is always a good idea), and call your insurance company to see if you’re covered. If not, you can ask for help from insurance adjusters like lmrpublicadjusters.com.  Many San Antonio residents use a good hail storm as a chance to replace their roof when damage occurs.

High Winds and Your Roof

March 5, 2013 by khproperties 1 Comment

Roof Damage

As I walked to my car today and was buffeted by the high winds, I thought, “hey, it’s a blog post.” On almost every inspection report I have seen in my career, I have seen the recommendation for the owners to trim the trees back away from the roof. The reason is simple – although they look innocent enough and aren’t touching the roof (for residential roofing contractor Woodbury MN click here), when the high winds come blowing through, those branches start moving and become the equivalent of a giant wire brush running across your roof tiles. Each branch and leaf turns into a potential gouge in your roof tiles (regardless of the roofing material) and headaches for your down the line – whether it be leaks, pests, or having to repair it when you go to sell. Let an expert roofing contractor like the San Antonio roofers inspect your roofing system before it gets too late. In case you need help with renovation you can try here to get in touch with experts.

Looking for professional roofing services? You can click for more info here of a reliable roofing company that provides roof installation and repair services as they understand the value of keeping the roof over your head intact!

According to home renovation builders sydney, even if you’re not considering selling your home anytime soon, you should always keep those branches trimmed back in order to avoid costly roofing repairs and potential damage from water when it rains. You can see guide to Gutters here. This simple piece of maintenance can save you a lot of money in the long run. In addition to the dangers of wind damage, branches close to your roof also provide the perfect entrance to your home for many wood destroying insects (carpenter ants in particular love this method of entry).
