Fall is Here – Time for Pumpkin Patches and Butterbeer
The fall is starting to show her colors finally in San Antonio and with it my thoughts turn to pumpkin patches and butterbeer. I know, I know…the temperature is deceiving and fickle, but there are a few places where the leaves are starting to change colors. Pumpkins are on full display in every store, along with corn stalks, gourds, and of course, Halloween décor.
Two things that just make this my favorite season of all are…first, the amazing pumpkin patches, mazes, and fall festivals. It is finally a time to get out of the house with the family and enjoy Texas and some slightly cooler weather.
To that end, I found this great website that features a list of all the local pumpkin patches, mazes, etc. in and around San Antonio. You will definitely want to verify the information via the website or phone number of the particular locale you want to visit, but it is a great roundup of information. The second thing is the fantastic recipes that abound resulting from the harvest of apples and pumpkins now in season. One recipe I love doesn’t necessarily have apples and pumpkins in it though!
This recipe is for a drink, and for those Harry Potter fans out there, this is a replica of the drink they serve in the movies…yes, that’s right. It’s a recipe for butterbeer. It is non-alcoholic and I served it at my daughter’s birthday party last year. It was a huge hit. So, if you are hosting a party this fall, consider this super yummy drink to serve. Your guests will be happy you did!
Butterbeer Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 Liter Bottle Cream Soda
- 2 Tablespoons Rum Extract
- 1/2 Cup Butterscotch Flavored Syrup (near the ice cream toppings)
Add the extract and syrup to the 2 liter bottle of soda. Put cap on and slowly rotate to combine. Refrigerate until very cold.
Foam Topping:
- 7 Ounce Container Marshmallow Crème or Fluff
- 1 Cup Heavy whipping Cream
- 1 Teaspoon Rum Extract
Blend these ingredients with an electric mixer and combine until smooth and fluffy. Pour the butterbeer into a glass or mug, put a dollop of foam on, and drizzle with butterscotch if you like. Ummm…yum!
